Spooky Bottles

Here is something to do with empty wine bottles. Purchase some black matte spray paint or regular paint, and put at least 3 coats of paint to cover any signs of the wine bottle. Add a label on it and write anything that is Halloween related.

Spice Up Your Downey Apartment With Pumpkins

Pumpkin Carving

Ready to make the most of October? The easiest way to do this is by taking part in some do-it-yourself crafts, such as pumpkin carving! Here are some great ideas that will light up your Downey apartment.

Squiggles Pumpkin

These fun pumpkins are not like your typical jack-o-lanterns. Find a squiggle design that you like by either looking online or looking at items in your own home. Carve out the design all over your pumpkin and put it on display.

Abstract Leaves Pumpkin

Leaves are one of the iconic fall symbols so it makes sense to put them on a carved pumpkin. Get created and give it a 3D effect. Leaves come in all shapes and sizes, so your options are unlimited.

Skeleton Hand

This idea requires two pumpkins stacked on top of each other. On one pumpkin carve out the arm of the skeleton. On the smaller pumpkin, carve out the hand of the skeleton. Make sure both are centered so when you stack them on top of each other they align.

Story Time for Toddlers in Downey

Reading to your child at a very early age is encouraged, especially before the child’s 1st birthday.

Not only is it an incredible bonding experience, but it’s also a great way to immerse your child in sights, sounds, and speech rhythms, all of which are necessary for language development.

Studies have shown that by regularly reading to your child from infancy, by 18 to 25 months, your child will say and understand more words than those who hadn’t.

The Downey City Library is offering a special event for your babies and toddlers this coming Saturday, April 30, from 9:15 to 9:45 am

You’ll be able to start off your morning reading and signing, as you share your favorite childhood songs and rhymes with your child.

The program is designed for babies and toddlers 0 to 2 years old and their parents or caregivers.
